On Monday, April 15, 2024, a conference entitled “Empowering Gen Z – Blue Economy and Ocean-related careers” was organized by Isalos.net under the auspices of the Our Ocean Conference and the Our Ocean Youth Leadership Summit at the Eugenides Foundation Amphitheater.

The IMO Goodwill Ambassador in Greece and President of the Eugenides Foundation, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis, after welcoming the attendees spoke about the challenges the shipping industry is facing today and well as in the near future, the new technologies that are expected to create opportunities for the industry, the skills that are considered necessary for the creation of competent shipping executives and well-trained Merchant Marine officers, the important role of the IMO in global shipping, and the 17 goals it has set for global sustainable development.

He characteristically stated: “Climate change and ocean degradation require urgent action. We look to you, the new generation, to discover new sustainable practices for the shipping industry. We have the necessary tools to make this transition. Technologies such as artificial intelligence offer sustainability and efficiency, but the key will always be knowledge and proper education.”
