The 13th Panhellenic Conference of Maritime Museums took place in Skiathos from 17 to 19 May 2024.
The aim of the conference was to highlight the importance of naval museums for the history of Greece, to raise awareness of restoration techniques for monuments-testimonies of maritime heritage, to highlight the continuity of traditions, skills and historically preserved shipyards and shipyards, as well as the use of new technologies and digital tools for their preservation in perpetuity.
Mr. Dimitriadis Evgenidis also participated in the conference, and the IMO Goodwill Ambassador, he began his speech by referring to the significance of May 17th, not only as the opening day of the conference but also as the International Day for Women in Maritime which focuses on women’s activities and presence in maritime professions.
Characteristically, he said, “I strongly belief that women play an important role in modern commercial shipping. While there are still challenges to overcome, efforts to encourage more women to join the industry and support their success can help create a more diverse and inclusive maritime workforce.
Women are certain to play an even more significant role in Commercial Shipping in the future. They have clearly demonstrated that they can not only excel in a difficult, specialized, and male-dominated profession but also contribute to its improvement and development. All of us who have been in Shipping for many years have the modern perception of the changing times and mentalities and consider it our duty to integrate women into ships, to be their supporters and to show them the utmost respect.
