Introduction of the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece and President of the Eugenides Foundation Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis

CHALLENGES AT SEA FOR THE YOUTH

Tradition, love for the sea, thirst for experiences, skills, training, and a dynamic model of development characterizes the most competitive sector of the Greek economy, Greek Shipping, which is a world leader in the field of maritime transport. Its main pillars are insights, courage, the hybrid relationship between ship and seafarers, where the island Andros has a significant presence over time. Andros, the “island of sailors”, is a place with rich maritime history and long shipping tradition, where the seafaring profession flourished. The sea “invites” young Greeks to staff its ships, because without Greek officers there is no Greek shipping. There is also real interest in staffing the offices of the maritime cluster, which due to modern technology are closely connected to the ship. So, we welcome young men and women through this conference, to pursue careers at sea, and if they love and dedicate themselves to it, it will never betray them. Prerequisite is the acquisition of knowledge and experience and the practice of a culture of lifelong learning.
