2ο Chios International Shipping Summit

The Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport of the University of the Aegean organized and hosted the 2nd Chios International Shipping Summit in Chios and Oinousses on June 20–21, 2025, under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping.

The conference, titled “A Dialogue Between the Academic Community and the Shipping Industry,” focused on the modern challenges of shipping and the path toward a sustainable, technologically advanced, and competitive maritime industry.

Dr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece, delivered a warm greeting, recognizing the importance of the summit as an institution for the maritime sector.

The Ambassador emphasized the relevance of the thematic areas discussed, such as geoeconomics, decarbonization, maritime education, and the well-being of seafarers, highlighting the need for strategic thinking, a long-term vision, and the crucial role of the IMO’s goals and regulations.

He referred to geopolitical tensions and their impact on shipping, stressing that the sea must remain a field of peaceful cooperation and global prosperity.

Special emphasis was placed on coastal shipping and insularity, as key elements of the identity of both the Aegean and Greece.
