“IT’S OK NOT TO BE OK”

The Goodwill Maritime Ambassador of the IMO in Greece Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis Evgenidis participated remotely in the Seafarers Mental Health and Wellbeing Conference entitled “It’s ok not to be ok”, which was organized by the ESG Shipping Awards on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Athens.
The purpose of the workshop was to highlight the challenges seafarers face and to highlight that the silence surrounding mental health in the shipping industry needs to be broken.
Speakers from institutions, academia, and representatives of the shipping industry shared their expertise and experiences on the subject of seafarers’ mental health while hundreds attended this successful conference.
To understand the psychological effects of life on board, the IMO Maritime Ambassador, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis Evgenidis, also spoke, mentioning that isolation, loneliness, fatigue, sleep deprivation, risk to physical health, mental health, cultural language barriers, so many aspects that need to be addressed in an ever-changing world.
