The President of the Eugenides Foundation and IMO Goodwill Ambassador, Leonidas Dimitriadis Evgenidis, attended the workshop on the Regulation for the Safe Electrification, Electric Charging, Berthing, Surveys and Certification of Electric and Hybrid Ships, organized by the General Secretariat of Shipping and Ports and the Directorate of Studies and Constructions of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy.

Mr. Dimitriadis-Evgenidis highlighted the importance of the education of executives who will manage and implement “green policies”. He stressed the need for the new generation to be equipped with “blue” and “green” skills which are essential for building a sustainable future.

Additionally, he noted that Greek shipping is first in orders regarding alternative fuel ships, while he requested for alternative fuels to be available in all ports internationally, clarifying that Greek shipping is technologically neutral.

Referring to the shipping industry, Mr. Evgenidis said that for the first time, he feels that there is a will for “the sick to die”, which threatened to dissolve the the sector. He added that Greek businessmen do not ask for preferential treatment but a framework of healthy competition. At the same time, he expressed, his optimism that the changes that are being promoted are in the right direction in the great effort for “green” transition and decarbonization. “It is very important to enter a new, clean and healthy framework, with a holistic character, where all regulatory authorities will be involved in finding a substantial solution to the challenges the shipping industry is facing” he emphasized characteristically.
