The IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador representing Greece, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis, and other renowned representatives of shipping companies and bodies of the broader shipping industry, attended the 19th one-day Conference “I Choose Shipping”, organized by Isalos.net, on December 10th at the premises of the Merchant Marine Academy of Crete, Marine Engineering Department.
The one-day conference was organized with the valuable support of the Seafarers’ Training Directorate of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy. The students had the opportunity to discuss with representatives of the shipping industry, issues related to the everyday life on the ship and to learn from the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador representing Greece, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis about the role of the IMO, the challenges of the maritime profession, the importance of lifelong learning and certification, but also the great prospects of their employment both on land and at sea.
More than 500 students of Merchant Marine Academy, Marine Engineering Department, actively participated in the one-day conference. Simultaneously, 180 first-year students had the opportunity to discuss with shipping representatives their concerns about their first educational trip.
