On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, the conference “New Technologies for Greener Shipping” dedicated to the new technologies of Shipping was successfully held on the celebration of World Shipping Day.
The conference, an initiative of the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis, was organized by Isalos.net in collaboration with the British Embassy and the Norwegian Embassy and was held under the auspices of the Maritime Chamber.
In a packed auditorium, approximately 420 participants, representatives of the maritime community of the three countries, Greece, Norway and Great Britain, and a large number of students from the country’s three institutions attended the conference, actively participating with questions to the speakers of the two panels.
Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis in his greeting, after mentioning the 17 goals of the IMO and its important role in global shipping, focused on the application of alternative technologies and fuels to reduce the environmental footprint provided they are commercial, available, and safe. He supported, with emphasis, the principle of neutrality in technology, the need to prepare correct impact studies, but also the need to upgrade naval education.
Finally, he emphasized that seafarers are the most important factor in a shipping company and therefore it is necessary to ensure the continuous improvement of their skills.
