Blue Chairs: Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis in a conversation with the new generation
As part of the dialogue at sea initiative with prominent maritime personalities, Isalos.net brings young Greek seafarers closer to the maritime industry.
Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis, President of the Eugenides Foundation and IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece, was invited to participate in the initiative entitled “Blue Chairs: Shipping in Dialogue with Society.”
The event took place on December 6, 2024, aboard the passenger ferry Anemos, in the presence of 80 young participants from eight maritime educational institutions and two Merchant Marine Academies.
During this meeting, the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the new generation, listening to the aspirations, ambitions, and concerns of tomorrow’s key players in Greek shipping. He expressed his optimism about the future of maritime professions in Greece, noting that the demand for crew to staff the Greek-owned fleet is steadily increasing.
However, concerning job opportunities in maritime offices, the situation is different, as the supply far exceeds demand, he mentioned. Lastly, the President of the Eugenides Foundation reiterated the importance of the IMO’s role in global shipping, emphasizing that this is a highly demanding sector. Thus, knowledge, a mindset of lifelong learning, and continuous development are the only guarantees for the success of young people in their careers.
