22nd Mare Forum 2024
Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis, the IMO’s Maritime Ambassador in Greece, participated in the conference entitled “22nd Mare Forum 2024” which was held at the Eugenides Foundation on April 18, 2024.
Mare Forum Greece is an annual maritime conference that hosts leaders and high-level executives who actively participate and discuss the future of shipping, trade, logistics, geopolitics, energy transition and security, decarbonisation, investments, ship financing and the critical issue of the human factor.
Mr. Dimitriadis-Evgenidis in his speech emphasized that as IMO Maritime Ambassador, he has a very difficult task: to persuade young men and women to enter the maritime professions and stay at sea.
He characteristically mentioned “Black Sea mines, pirates, etc. represent a difficult period ahead of us, and I am very afraid that the planet we live on, and although shipping is certainly less affected than any other mode of transport, we are here to do our duty. We are there to implement everything that new technology gives us. But my main concern will always be the human factor. This is something that needs to be addressed collectively and in many different ways. I am optimistic about the new generations as long as they are equipped with the skills and qualifications they need.
