Lecture by Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis
On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, the Postgraduate Studies Program “M.Sc. in Marine Science & Technology Management” of the University of Piraeus and the Hellenic Naval Academy organized a digital lecture on the topic: “The shipping executive of the future. Essential knowledge and skills for a career in shipping”.
The IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece and President of the Eugenides Foundation Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis was the keynote speaker, and Mr. Ioannis Theotokas, the Director of the Postgraduate Program, coordinated the lecture.
Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis referred to the position of Greek shipping in the world economy and trade and stated the importance of the IMO for the proper regulation and implementation of the new environmental regulations.
Additionally, referring to the new skills tomorrow’s shipping executives are required to obtain, he emphasized the EU support through the European SkillSea program, in which the Eugenides Foundation is responsible for developing the broad guidelines of the Maritime Skills Strategy Framework.
Finally, the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador mentioned that in order for shipping to take the next “technological” step, the cooperation between the shipping industry, the training centers, and the state is vital. Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis closed his lecture by discussing with the participants and answering their questions.
