“We Are Coming Towards the Sea”
In Didymoteicho, Evros, an educational initiative was organized by Isalos.net, launching its new series of events titled “We Are Coming Towards the Sea.”
The first event took place on Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, at the 1st Vocational High School (EPAL) of Didymoteicho “Eugenios Eugenides,” under the auspices of the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador in Greece, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Evgenidis.
During the opening of the event, the IMO Goodwill Ambassador in Greece delivered a greeting, highlighting the challenges of the seafaring profession, the particularities of life at sea, as well as the important and regulatory role of the IMO in global shipping.
As part of the event, more than 200 students from middle and high schools in the region had the opportunity to learn about maritime professions and the career opportunities at sea, as well as to engage in discussion with five active Merchant Marine officers. This initiative was not limited to vocational students specializing in maritime studies programs, but was open to all students in this border region of Greece.
